Address Not Found

The idea of Internet censorship came to socialists’s minds decades ago. And this has already come into effect. In China, for instance, “The International Olympic Committee … [was] planning to lobby the Chinese Government to improve internet access after the Chinese Olympic Committee declared it will censor the internet during the Games” ([link widoczny dla zalogowanych]). Many websites - including Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch - are blocked and an internet browser prompts ‘Address Not Found’ when trying to enter the web addresses to such websites. According to an article in The Economist ([link widoczny dla zalogowanych]) in North Korea “mobile phones and the internet are forbidden, except for the elite, and radio and television sets are made to tune only to government stations“. What is also interesting the only two domains (both government ones) have been registered under North Korean domain names. But what about countries like Australia (which is by no means an exception).

According to the ‘Reporters without borders’ ([link widoczny dla zalogowanych]), ‘Fifteen counties are black holes in the World Wide Web. News is not free to circulate there‘. Nonetheless it is not surprising that Australia is not one of them because its Internet filtering system has not come into effect yet. ‘The Australian Federal Government is pushing forward with a plan to force Internet Service Providers … to censor the Internet for all Australians.‘ ([link widoczny dla zalogowanych]).

So why are the governments so eager to control the Internet so as to indulge themselves about the real crime? Because this is the only place in the whole world where freedom of speech truly exists and controlling that is the easier way to muzzle societies. Any license is needed for anyone who wants to make a speech about anything on their website. (Although there are some restrictions when buying a domain but only in some countries.) [link widoczny dla zalogowanych], the late Polish writer and politician said: ‘socialism is a system in which like a hero the government eliminates the problems which are unknown in other systems‘. It is not said at the wrong time, however. (As it was said above, this is happening.) What is more terrifying, the governments are doing so for our money and they are keep saying that this is for all our sakes. Is that so?
